Dave McNeilly Public School Opening this Fall

Fort McMurray Public School District (FMPSD) is excited to welcome Dave McNeilly Public School to the family. Slated to open this fall in Parsons Creek north, our 16th school will offer programming from ECDP (Early Childhood Development Program) to grade six.

Registration is open for the school, which is located on 431 Callen Drive. Dave McNeilly, the school’s namesake, was an FMPSD and community icon. In 1968, he became the first principal of Dr. K.A. Clark Elementary School, and retired in 1976. A city councillor, he was also an active volunteer with the Golden Years Society where he was awarded Fort McMurray’s Male senior of the Year award. Mr. McNeilly passed away in 2015 at the age of 81.

Roxanne Fudge has been named the school’s Principal, Nancy Ball is the Vice Principal, and Melita Ellsworth has been appointed the school’s Head Secretary.

The team is excited and looks forward to welcoming families. Dave McNeilly will be a Leader in Me school, focusing on the “Seven Habits.” It is a process, designed to help teachers develop leadership skills in every student. In addition, an FMPSD favourite, Tech-Trade Academy will also be housed at the school with both the pre-engineering and multimedia streams. Academic enrichment programming is also in the works.

“We can’t wait to welcome students and their families. We have a passion for education, and this is a passion you’ll see every day. We’ll be hand-picking staff who believe in our goals of  21st century learning. We are looking at community partnerships, environmental stewardship, and so much more,” enthused Principal Fudge, who has been with the District since 1999, and is the current Principal of Frank Spragins High School.

“You’ll be enjoying a beautiful facility this fall, and there’s nothing like a new school to start the new academic year. We are looking forward to welcoming our first students,” notes Jeff Thompson, Chair, FMPSD Board of Trustees.
