News Release: Traditional Celebration of Achievement to celebrate 20th Year

(FORT MCMURRAY, AB - May 9, 2017) Fort McMurray Public School District,  Fort McMurray Catholic Schools, and Northland School Division are pleased to announce the 2017 Traditional Celebration of Achievement (TCOA) will be held on May 25, 2017 - 7 p.m. at Keyano Theatre.

The Traditional Celebration of Achievement recognizes and honours the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit (FNMI) graduates of the Wood Buffalo region. Students from Fort McMurray, Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay, Anzac, Janvier, and Conklin will be honoured.

“Fort McMurray Public School District is proud to have a First Nations, Metis, and Inuit focus as a priority. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, senior administration and staff we congratulate all our students who will be crossing the stage. It's going to be a big day for our schools, and for our District,” said Doug Nicholls, Fort McMurray Public School District Superintendent.

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Superintendent George McGuigan, “I remember the work that went into the very first TCOA. It’s incredible to think back 20 years and see what great strides we’ve made. Thank you to all of the organizers on the TCOA committee. It is inspiring to see these students cross the stage each year and know the opportunities available to them. We at Fort McMurray Catholic Schools are pleased to be a part of their success.”

The inaugural TCOA was held in 1998 when 33 graduates from the Fort McMurray area crossed the stage. At last year’s ceremony over 150 graduates were celebrated for their achievements.

Congratulations everyone.
