Back to School: FMPSD Ready for a Phenomenal 2017-18

The 2017-18 academic year is already looking great. We have opened the doors to Christina Gordon Public School at 106 Parsons Creek Drive, and Dave McNeilly Public at 431 Callen Drive in Parsons Creek north. Fort McMurray Christian School has settled in its new home at Timberlea Public on 107 Brett Drive. And, the Beacon Hill Bears are headed home on September 5, the first day of school. ECDP starts on September 11.

The Bears will be in for a pleasant surprise thanks to Canadian Tire. Their school was painted on August 15 and 16, 2017 by 30 Canadian Tire Corporation volunteers both local and from out of town. In addition to Canadian Tire - staff from Sport Chek and Mark’s home offices in Toronto and Calgary came in to volunteer. Over 90% of the school was refreshed with Premier paint. We appreciate it immensely.

There will be no basic school fee this year. However, other fees such as PEAK, Reggio, Montessori, ECDP, busing and school field trips etc., continue to be charged.

Effective immediately, all school offices are open for registration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Some are even open earlier or later to accommodate different schedules. Stop by today to avoid line-ups when school starts.

Fort McMurray Composite High School modernization is in full swing, and so is Ecole McTavish’s high school expansion. Both schools are coming along well, and despite ongoing construction will be ready for students when school starts.

“We are ready to welcome a new academic year. Staff and administrators are back after a restful summer, and ready to assist parents/caregivers. With new schools, new programs, and a fresh start, the FMPSD team is ready to make 2017-18 an incredible year for students,” said Doug Nicholls, Superintendent, Fort McMurray Public School District.
