News Release: FMPSD Launches PACE Academy for Accelerated Learners - Info Session on March 27

(Fort McMurray, AB, March 14, 2018) Fort McMurray Public School District (FMPSD) is all set to launch PACE - Program for Academic Challenge and Enrichment. Parents and guardians are invited to an information session on March 27, 2018 - 7 p.m., at Dave McNeilly Public School where PACE will be housed.

The academy will be geared towards students who will be in grades 4 to 6 in 2018-19, and are accelerated learners. This includes having extraordinary literacy and/or numeracy skills, being independent and responsible learners, enjoying academic challenges, and being highly motivated to learn.

Centred on project based learning, and technology infused instruction, PACE will feature a robust learning environment with many leadership opportunities for students. Debate, guest speakers, second language learning, and enhanced academic study are a few of the many elements making up PACE. Students will need school referrals and go through an application process in order to be selected for the program.

Roxanne Fudge, Principal, Dave McNeilly Public School will be overseeing the academy.

“Parents should attend to find out what exciting opportunities we have in store for next year, have a look at our beautiful facility and meet some of the school staff. We are thrilled to host this innovative new program, which will challenge our students to reach their full academic potential in a supportive and encouraging environment. We look forward to meeting parents at our information session,” explained Fudge.

Doug Nicholls, Superintendent, FMPSD, is looking forward to starting the program.

“PACE is the latest innovative program that our District has initiated. Having this type of opportunity for grade 4 through 6 students is something we believe the parents of Wood Buffalo will appreciate. This will be a very diverse, differentiated program for students looking for a challenging and dynamic learning environment. Any parent with a child who is well above grade level in literacy and numeracy should closely examine PACE. We believe it will be an incredible program for students,” Superintendent Nicholls noted.

Dave McNeilly Public School is located in Parsons Creek North on 431 Callen Drive.
