In the 2014-15 school year, as part of its commitment for continuous improvement, Fort McMurray Public School District implemented a comprehensive School Review Process to be conducted on one or two schools each year.
Schools in the district volunteer to participate in this process which is conducted by a School Review Team made up of educational leaders external to the school. This process is conducted in addition to the School Growth Process that all FMPSD schools conduct themselves each year.
The School Review Team conducts interviews and surveys of students, staff and parents, spends several observation days in the school and reviews information such as the School Growth plan and Alberta Education Accountability Pillar results to help it prepare a School Review Report focused on highlighting the positive things happening at the school and identifying areas for potential improvement.
The School Review Report provides information in the form of observations, commendations, and recommendations to the school Administration and staff, the School Councils, and the District Leadership Team with respect to many key areas, including academic achievement, safe and caring schools, parental involvement, extra-curricular activities for students, school communication, school climate and much more.
In April 2015, Ecole Dickinsfield School became the first school to participate in the School Review Process, with Ecole McTavish Junior High and Fort McMurray Islamic School taking part in the process in 2015-16.
