(Fort McMurray, AB - April 7th, 2025) We're thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) students at the Wood Buffalo Regional Science Fair (WBRSF), held on April 4th and 5th! The results showcase the incredible talent and dedication of our students and schools.
- FMPSD students claimed 27 out of 33 Division Medals. That's 82% of the medals earned!
- Our students took home an impressive 19 out of 27 Special Awards.
- Most remarkably, FMPSD students won all 4 Grand Prizes at the fair.
A special shoutout goes to Aarya Patel, Priyal Patel, Nishka Rai, and Riley Saha Halder, students from Westwood Community High School, who earned the coveted WBRSF Grand Championship. Their innovative projects have secured them a place at the Canada-Wide Science Fair, set to take place from May 31st to June 7th in Fredericton, New Brunswick. We couldn't be prouder of their dedication and brilliance, and we’re excited to see them represent FMPSD and make their mark on the national stage.
Superintendent Annalee Nutter expressed immense pride and admiration for our students’ achievements.
“Each year, the Wood Buffalo Regional Science Fair gives students in the region a chance to become young scientists—observing, questioning, experimenting, and discovering. By following the steps of the scientific method, they deepen their understanding and curiosity. From forming a hypothesis to analyzing results and sharing their conclusions, students showcase not only what they’ve learned but also how they’ve grown as thinkers and problem-solvers. We proudly congratulate all participants for their dedication, creativity, and hard work.”
