(Fort McMurray, AB - August 31st, 2023) As the warm summer days start to cool down and the leaves begin to change, it can only mean one thing: the back-to-school season is here. We’ve all experienced the excitement and anticipation of a brand-new school year. New supplies, new clothes, and new classes bring a sense of freshness and new beginnings. As students trade in beach towels for textbooks and lemonade for lunch boxes, the energy in the air is palpable. From kindergarten to high school, students of all ages are gearing up for an adventure that will challenge, motivate, and inspire them. With a fresh start and a renewed sense of purpose, back-to-school marks the beginning of a journey filled with academic achievement, personal growth, and unforgettable memories.
We are thrilled to welcome our students, teachers, and staff back to our vibrant community of Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) learners, doers, and dreamers. With a rich legacy of excellence in education, FMPSD is committed to providing a world-class education that empowers our students to achieve their full potential and positively impact the world.
We are privileged to have such a diverse student and staff body and recognize the importance of inclusivity and acceptance in our classrooms. Our commitment to educating students from all backgrounds is unwavering, and we’re excited to welcome everyone back to an environment where individuality is celebrated and unity is fostered. Whether your family has been in the area for generations or you’re new to town, the FMPSD is a place where everyone is welcome, and all voices are heard; let’s remember that the diversity we bring to the school makes it an exceptional and enriching experience.
With her unwavering commitment to fostering growth and learning for everyone, FMPSD Superintendent Annalee Nutter is thrilled to welcome everyone back to the start of a new academic year filled with endless possibilities and exciting opportunities for growth and success.
“As we welcome back staff and students to an exciting new school year, I can’t help but admire the bright smiles recharged over a lengthy break. It sounds like everyone enjoyed the exceptional summer weather, spending time with friends and family across the country or having a well-deserved ‘staycation’ in this beautiful region we call home.
Excited for the new year, I’ll share something I was fortunate enough to hear at a summer conference and have already shared with FMPSD staff. In our lives, it’s easy to get caught up in a busy routine. Still, it’s important to remember three principles: with empathy, selfless service and love, we can help one another to feel understood, feel good about ourselves and ensure everyone feels respected. It may seem like a simple reminder, but given the current state of our society and the world in general, I think it is an excellent reminder for everyone. We are all human. We can all be kind. We are humankind, and we are better together.
We are excited to work alongside our students, parents, and guardians to make the 2023/2024 academic year one to remember. Welcome back, FMPSD family! Let’s make this a year full of growth, discovery, and outstanding accomplishments.”
