The new FMPSD Board was sworn in today with Linda Mywaart elected as the Chair, and Angela Adams elected as Vice Chair - both by acclamation.

"I am honoured to be re-elected to serve in my community, and delighted to start my work as board chair. Our children are the greatest resource and being part of their present and future is an ongoing privilege and pleasure. We have our work cut out for us, but I believe we have a strong team at the table, ready to roll up their sleeves and do what's best for kids. Onward and forward!” said Chair Mywaart.

Vice Chair Angela Adams echoed similar sentiments.

“It’s an honour to be elected for another term to serve the community of Fort McMurray,  having the opportunity to help influence the citizens of tomorrow is a privilege. Seeing students grow and ensuring they have the ability to do whatever their hearts desire is so fulfilling. Children are our most important assets, it is such a joy to see what they are doing every day in the classrooms.”

Superintendent Doug Nicholls congratulated all the trustees.

“We are already very impressed with the passion and dedication that this board is showing. Students, staff, and community will be well served by these FMPSD trustees.”

Trustee Jonathan Lambert noted, he was “overwhelmed by the support during campaign. Now that I am officially part of this team, the real work begins. I look forward to learning from the returning trustees as well as growing alongside those who, like me, have just started this journey.”

Trustee Tim O'Hara is looking forward to continue representing FMPSD at the provincial level.

“It is an honour to have been re-elected; and I look forward to serving as a representative of the FMPSD family. I am also excited about being able to continue to represent our District at the provincial level, both to share our success stories, and our challenges as we seek  to continuously improve our schools, programs, and supports.”

Trustee Solange Maher is “extremely proud and grateful for the opportunity to serve. I am looking forward to working with the energizing team. We have common goals and synergy when it comes to Doing What’s Best for Kids.”

A former FMPSD administrator, Trustee Dan Rizzuto is excited to return to the District.

“I am extremely honoured to represent the voice of our students, parents, staff and community members. I look forward to this challenge and will work diligently to fulfill my responsibilities with a focus on student achievement within positive school cultures, inclusive and accepting of all students. My passion for education, combined with my past experiences as a teacher and school administrator will positively impact the decisions I make in the best interest of our students. Together we will foster an environment of continuous improvement.”

Trustee Stephen Drover thanked everyone on being re-elected.

“Thank you Fort McMurray for your support! It is such a privilege to continue serving the community as a trustee in the Fort McMurray Public School District.”
