From the October 17, 2018 Board of Trustees Meeting

Timberlea Public School’s STEAM Program

Students got up close and personal with trustees to share STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) programming. They spoke about being engaged with hands-on activities, which challenge their problem solving skills, creativity, and imagination.

From Engineering in grade 1 to Digital Art in grade 6, students highlighted being thrilled with the program.

Dr. Clark Public School’s Leader in Me Presentation

Student leaders performed the “7 Habits Song.” They sing it daily at school to demonstrate their understanding of the habits in school and at home. It helps them become “strong leaders of the future!”

Partners in Education Recipient

Stu Wigle, Manager, Earls Restaurant (photo below) was our guest. This April, Earls stepped up to begin Dave McNeilly Public School’s hot lunch program. They not only provided and delivered the hot lunch, but donated the proceeds of the hot lunch back to the school.

When Stu learned the school was planning to start a Culinary Arts Program, he immediately offered to have his Red Seal chefs come up to instruct. In addition, he is providing a significant financial contribution to stock the culinary arts room. Thank you for your support, Stu and Earls Fort McMurray.

TAFI Award

This month’s TAFI (Twitter, Apps, Facebook, Instagram) Award went to Angela Woods, Vice Principal, Dr. Clark Public School, and our FNMI Lead. With over 1140 tweets on her personal account - majority of which are always highlighting FMPSD, and 195 on the @indigenousFMPSD recently launched Twitter account, Angela is one of our ever present social media champions.

She takes some of the best pictures across the District, and highlights our student activities, FNMI Student Advisory Council, as well as upcoming events.

Congratulations Angela!
