A Learning community dedicated to educating all students for personal excellence

Summer School 2019 Runs July 5 to 30 – Registration Open

Information for Registered Families

Welcome to E-cademy+

Please know that we are all working together to make sure that E-cademy+ is a quality online program for your children. E-cademy+ is NOT the same as at home learning which happened last March-June.  It is much more robust and includes all of the curriculum areas.  It requires parents to be dedicated to making sure students are online daily with their teacher and completing assignments.

Administrators are busy handling two schools (their brick and mortar school as well as E-cademy+).  If you filled out the FMPSD E-cademy+ Interest Form, we are working as fast as we can to get to you. Elementary, Junior High and Senior High all have different requirements, so you may hear from Elementary before you hear from Junior High or Senior High (who are busy staffing and pulling schedules together to meet student needs).

Click on the buttons below and you will find information that was emailed to you.  Sometimes these emails go to your SPAM box, so please check before phoning.

Technology that is required for E-cademy+ is not one specific brand or type.  As long as students have something with a working camera and a microphone such as a laptop, desktop, or Chromebook, then you are good to go!  Students should also have headphones to block out background noise.

The deadline to register for E-cademy+ is September 10th at 4pm.  The process is to submit your expression of interest HERE, and then patiently wait for a phone call from Division Office followed by sharing of information on next steps.  Students can move back to brick and mortar schools after the first report card if they choose, but we are asking that they remain with E-cademy+ until then.

Fort McMurray Public School District (FMPSD) will be hosting Summer School from July 5 to 30 at Westwood Community High School. Diploma exams will be written from August 1 to 12. You can register here.

Students exiting Grade 9 (June 2019) and entering Grade 10 in 2019-2020 are eligible to register for courses, in addition to high school students in Grades 10 through 12. Only one course can be taken due to the condensed nature of summer school classes. Last year the program saw 299 students registered with a projection of over 300 this year.

Daniel Baseley previously served as Summer School Vice Principal in 2017 and 2018, and is the current Vice Principal of Fort McMurray Christian School.  He is now looking forward to serving as the 2019 Summer School Principal.

“We are eager to launch the summer program again this year, and continue our long-standing partnership with our sister school district. The classes we offer afford both Public and Catholic high school students the opportunity to 'work ahead' or upgrade - thereby promoting academic excellence as well,” shares Baseley.

“A number of experienced summer school teachers will likely be returning, and I know their expertise will be greatly appreciated by everyone. July will be extremely busy, and it always seems to pass by in an instant. In August grade 12 students will be able to write or rewrite their Diploma Examinations.”

David Hurley, who has previously taught Social Studies 20-1 in Summer School, is looking forward to supporting staff and students alike in his first year as the Summer School Vice Principal.

“We are expecting another busy summer with high enrollment and a wide variety of courses to offer all prospective students. We encourage all interested students to register, whether they are planning to upgrade or 'fast track,' but we ask them to be aware of the condensed nature of this program,” notes Hurley.

“Students must be highly motivated, independent, and punctual while in summer school as the program moves at an accelerated pace. Successfully completing a summer school course is always a rewarding experience, but it does not come without the hard work. We look forward to welcoming new and returning students, and to having another high achieving summer," Hurley adds.

Classes will run Monday through Friday beginning at 8 a.m., and ending at 1:30 p.m., with a 30 minute lunch break.
