News Release: Superintendent Turner Resigns from FMPSD

(Fort McMurray, AB, August 30, 2021) It is with a profound sense of loss that Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) learned the news of Superintendent of Schools, Jennifer Turner’s resignation today. Her last day with the Division will be on December 31, 2021.

Superintendent Turner joined FMPSD almost two years ago, and has been a stellar force in leading the Division through critical challenges and changes including, but not limited to the ongoing pandemic, the 100-year-flood, staff and budget cuts, as well as new provincial funding formulas.

She will be joining the University of Calgary as the Director, Centre for Wellbeing in Education in January.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of Schools over the past two years. Fort McMurray is filled with inspiring students and staff, in a community that is extraordinarily rich in diversity and opportunity. It has been an honour to work with the Board of Trustees, staff and on behalf of the students,” she noted.

“This was not an easy decision to make and I would like to sincerely thank our FMPSD Family for the opportunity to learn and grow here. Due to a number of significant changes in my family life over the spring culminating with the loss of my mother, I feel that this is best for my family at this time. I will always look to support and champion the exceptional work being done in Fort McMurray Public Schools.”

Linda Mywaart, Board Chair, FMPSD accepted Superintendent Turner’s resignation.

"Superintendent Turner has made a long-lasting impact during her time with FMPSD. Her professionalism, passion, and expertise have served us well and forged a solid path for students and staff to follow going forward. The Board extends its deepest respect and gratitude to Mrs. Turner and sincerely wishes her all the best. She will be missed in FMPSD and in the community when she leaves in December."

Superintendent Turner will be working with the Board for her succession planning in the coming weeks.

Thank you for everything, Jennifer. You will be missed immeasurably.
