(Fort McMurray, AB, August 30, 2022) The first day of school is always an exciting time for students and parents, and this year was no different for students in the Fort McMurray Public School Division. Students were greeted with new teachers, classrooms, and classmates as they started the 2022/2023 school year. Grades Five, Six and Seven were welcomed into schools today with other grades to follow on their own respective staggered entry dates. Fort McMurray Public School Division is implementing a staggered entry again this year in an effort to further reduce stress and anxiety. This will be beneficial for individuals, particularly those entering a new school for the first time.
Despite the challenges faced by the community over the past few years, Superintendent of Schools Annalee Nutter expressed optimism for the upcoming school year.
“FMPSD staff is very excited to begin a new school year, supporting our students for personal success and welcoming new students from around the world. After what has been the toughest two and a half years in Education, we are looking forward to in person school events and activities, increased engagement with our stakeholders and celebrating successes throughout the year.”
Regularly scheduled classes are to resume at all schools on September 6th.
