Mandatory Assessments
- Provincial Achievement Tests (PAT)
Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are administered annually to all Alberta students in grades 6 and 9. These standardized tests reflect the essentials that all Alberta students are expected to achieve, regardless of school choice or location.
Purpose:
- To determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
- To report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
- To assist schools, authorities and the province in monitoring and improving student learning
Analysis of Results: Principals are encouraged to review results with staff and set targets for improvement.
Reporting of Results: Principals are responsible for sharing preliminary results with parents and guardians. Division results are presented to the Board. - Diploma Examinations
Purpose:
- To certify the level of individual student achievement in selected Grade 12 courses
- To ensure that province-wide standards of achievement are maintained
- To report individual and group results
Analysis of Results: Principals are encouraged to review results with staff and set targets for improvement.
Reporting of Results: Student results are available on myPass approximately 3 weeks after writing diploma exams. Division results are presented to the Board.
